Activate your Baby

Keeping your baby active is a big priority; even when Mommy’s traditionally hectic life often throws curve balls into the mix. Physical playtime is not only ideal for developing motor skills and strength, but can be lots of fun for the whole family. Include some of these ideas in to your life and seek out active fun for your family whenever possible.
•
Playtime, Tummy Time: Lay a blanket on the floor and place your baby on his/her tummy, placing their head to one side. You can lie down beside her or put a toy in her line of vision. Use toys, especially ones that have sounds or lights to catch baby’s attention. This activity allows for infants to develop head control and the upper body strength needed to crawl. As your baby gets stronger, place toys or stuffed animals in front of him, or just outside of their reach, to encourage him to support himself and reach for the toys.
•
Playgroups: Search the web for local playgroups. Many communities have playgroups that incorporate “Mommy & Me” activities that are great for bonding and getting active.
•
Baby Gymnastics: Music, physical challenges and silliness. These are all things that go in to a baby gymnastics class. No cartwheels of course! Just crawling, climbing and rolling. Find group classes near you or create your own gymnasium in your home—practice rolling around, stretching and tumbling in a nice open soft space.
• Playgrounds: They are everywhere! Most playgrounds have equipment for a wide variety of ages; utilize them as often as you can.
Pursue an active lifestyle with your baby and you may find her sleeping sounder, digesting meals better and developing as she should.
